Indoor Concerts
October 5 - Golden Shoals
Workshops at 2:00 pm
Oldtime Fiddle | Oldtime Guitar
Concert at 4:00 pm
Golden Shoals is a fiddle and guitar duo with a "rousing old-time-style music that’s fueled by acerbic modern-day wit” (-No Depression Magazine). They are no strangers to traditional music, having placed in contests including Clifftop (3rd place 2023, 4th place 2022), Mount Airy, The Grand Masters Fiddlers Championship and Galax. Often switching instruments between fiddle, two guitars, and banjo, their original songs have been compared to Gillian Welch, with the added edge of instrumental prowess informed by energetic old time and bluegrass recordings.
Initially brought together by a mutual love of American folk music, Golden Shoals' sound has expanded to include country, Americana, Indie and Experimental influences, allowing them to move more freely beyond genre boundaries with their songwriting while still emanating a deep understanding of Old-Time and Bluegrass music. Ever inspired by the enduring spirit of traditional Appalachian mountain music, their songwriting comes across as simple, honest, and fresh to the ears. The listener can expect the polished technique of conservatory training, in tandem with the grit, drive, and soul of musicians like Roscoe Holcomb or Ola Belle Reed.
November 5 - Jimmy Davidson & Friends
Concert at 7:00 pm
Artist Gallery Reception on November 7 from 5-7 pm
Jimmy Davidson is a singer-songwriter and artist in Boone, North Carolina. He spent his musically formative years in Athens, Georgia, in various bands. Most recently he was singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter for the Worthless Son-in-Laws. His music leans toward indie-folk-rock with a blend of influences like Fruit Bats, Calexico, early R.E.M., the Jayhawks, the dB's, the Shins, Iron & Wine, and Lord Huron. The band has released three albums, which are available on all the main streaming outlets. The latest album is “Resplendent Verge.”
A multi-talented artist, Davidson will also showcase his photography at the Jones House throughout the month of November. A special reception will take place on November 7 in the Mazie Jones Gallery, as a part of the Downtown Boone First Friday Art Crawl.
Joseph Terrell
November 9 - Joseph Terrell and Jordan Tice
Guitar Workshop at 4:30 pm
Concert at 7:00 pm
Joseph Terrell has spent a decade singing, playing guitar, and writing songs in celebrated Americana quartet Mipso. His songs include fan favorites that inspire singalongs around the country as well as a viral folk murder ballad about Luigi Mangioni. Joseph’s debut solo album "Good For Nothing Howl" (Sleepy Cat Records) features members of Hiss Golden Messenger, Bonnie Light Horseman, and Bon Iver. The result is a kaleidoscope of folk tradition and sonic playfulness with images of Terrell’s native North Carolina woods sparkling in the foreground.
Jordan Tice
Jordan Tice is a musical seeker of the most dedicated sort. Listening to the breadth of his discography, which includes 7 projects as a solo artist and 6 as a founding member of the string band, Hawktail, one will hear this dedication at play. Equally virtuosic as a flatpicker and fingerstylist, and with a casual vocal style, Tice conjures ingredients from far-flung worlds with ease. His songs are enriching for all manner of listeners, from guitar fanatics to more casual fans of Americana music. He delivers performances that are not weighted by any one area of his prowess, allowing listeners to join his world of candor, wit and ineffable facility with comfort.
